An October jaunt down Half Moon Bay to fetch a pumpkin is an annual tradition for many folks in the Bay Area, especially during the Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival. My wife and I make this yearly trek as well, though we skip the festival weekend and its crowds to keep things moving at our own pace. And while we remain 6 years old at heart when it comes to Halloween activities, we definitely enjoy the over 21 aspects we add to this day trip. |

Title: Heading Out |
Location/Address: To Half Moon Bay |
Time: Whenever you wish... |
Get a smile on your face because it’s pumpkin picking day! If you’re able to come to Half Moon Bay from the city (SF), make sure you take Highway 1 to enjoy the scenic drive along the coast. It’s far different from a New England country-picking trip for sure. Here, on a clear day, you`ll get California sun, sand and surf... lovely. |

Title: Pumpkin Patch |
Location/Address: Farmer`s Daughter (on Hwy 1 before Capistrano Rd) |
Time: 2nd Step |
While there are many “places” to grab a pumpkin in and around Half Moon Bay, an actual patch that is our personal favorite is The Farmer’s Daughter. It actually feels the part and is run by a lovely family, who always have a smile on their face. The prices are reasonable and you can grab some delicious honey, produce and other healthy snacks while you’re there. |

Title: Time for Food & Beverages |
Location/Address: Half Moon Bay Brewing Company |
Time: Now that you are good and hungry/thirsty |
Now it’s time to head over to the Half Moon Bay Brewery for a respite. There are plenty of alternatives nearby if need be – Barbara’s Fish Trap, Sam’s Chowder House and Crab Landing - but HMBB does a good job with their brews and bloodies, as well as fish tacos, burgers and a pretty good crab & shrimp sandwich. If it’s sunny and you have some patience, wait for a spot outside. Got a dog? Bring the lucky boy or girl because this place loves the pooch. (Otherwise hit the bar for a quick seat.) |

Title: Stroll around the town... |
Location/Address: Main Street Half Moon Bay |
Time: Just after lunch or in the mood for a break.... |
Now that you’re satiated, kill a little time before heading back to the city by strolling around the town. Shops, cafes and such are located on Main Street, just a 5-minute drive to the south. A personal favorite is the antique-y type spot, Quintessence. (On the 9th of October 2010…) they had some of the most amazing classic Halloween crafts we’ve seen in a while. Nonetheless, the whole town gears up for October, pumpkins and art, so you’ll be delighted with what each spot has to offer. |

Title: Bonus! Spooky Movie! |
Location/Address: Home |
Time: When You`re Pooped |
Bonus Step, if you’re in the mood… Watch a classic horror movie! Whether its Netflix, DVD, whatever. How about Boris Karloff as Frankenstein or Bella Lugosi as Dracula? In this day and age, they probably seem campy, but hey, wasn’t the whole day campy? (For maximum extra points, watch "It`s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!") |
